It's all too common.... People find out about Therianthropy, and it just makes sense to them. And the very first question that is put to them is "What's your theriotype?" So they begin to think. And think. And research. And explore.... They work themselves into such a frenzy trying to answer that one question. Well, I'm telling you that if you're having to work at "discovering" your theriotype, you're probably going about it the wrong way!
Relax That is the first step to discovering your theriotype. Relax and don't fret about it. It can take some people years to discover their theriotype, because first they have to discover themselves. And especially if you're still maturing (mentally, not physically), you may not be ready to discover your theriotype!
Meditate Don't do research. Leave the animal wikipedia pages alone. Don't over-analyze your habits or likes or dislikes. Now I'm not talking about striking a yoga pose and humming some gregorian chant when I say "meditate". What I mean is to sit quietly in a quiet spot and let your mind wander over the question.
It may take years for you to discover your theriotype. I had been introduced to the concept of therianthropy for nearly 7 years before I was absolutely comfortable in picking a theriotype. My wife (the admin here at WCA) has known about therianthropy for almost 5 years. When she first discovered it, she immediately thought "tiger". But as she thought it through those first few months, she realized that she had attributes of a cougar as well. So she settled on a cross between tiger and cougar. Only, in the last few months, she's come to realize that there might not be so much tiger in there afterall. Has she changed, or was the tiger only an infatuation in the first place? The point is she's still in the process of discovering her theriotype!
So you're 22, been aware of therian for 3 years, and are still struggling with a theriotype -- that's normal! You're 16, just discovered therianthropy, and can't decide which -- that's normal! You're 14 years old, just discovered therianthropy and you're absolutely certain that you're a fantastic combination of every type of -kin you're heard of -- relax.
DISCLAIMER: This isn't aimed at any one person -- just a response to the tumultuous forum posts I've seen all over every single Therian board I've come across.
