I'm putting this in the Written Word section, because it pertains to the story that Teigra & I are trying to write.
We are trying to define the lives of the weretigers in the world of our story. We have decided that they will be born weretigers, and that their condition will not be a communicable disease. We're leaning towards having our weretigers be quadrupedal in tiger form, but I could be talked into having them bipedal with a good enough argument.
In any case, I've run into a bit of a problem. Werewolves are considered "cursed" because despite all of their enhanced abilities (incredible strength, heightened senses, long life, etc), there are drawbacks. They must turn on the full moon, their wolves are difficult to contain, they have serious anger management issues, etc. All in all, it's balanced -- the pros equal the cons.
In one of the books I'm reading that inspired this story of mine, the main character is a skinwalker. She can turn into a coyote any time she wants. She doesn't have the drawbacks of the anger issues or having to turn on the full moon, but she also lacks the incredible strength. Again, it's balanced.
Right now, I've got a superb list of enchanced abilities for our weretigers, but I can't seem to be able to come up with any drawbacks. Weretigers have incredible strength, extremely sensitive hearing, and they have exceptional nightvision (their dayvision is slightly worse than humans, though).
Can you guys think of any original drawbacks to being a weretiger? Otherwise, my story won't be balanced and the characters won't seem real. They need something to struggle against, being weretigers.
