1) I'm here also! Jaguar therian here, to use different terms. The Were- bit doesn't sound right to me. A bit.... superstitious? To each their own, I guess. 2) Oh, I don't know why I'm so awesome. I'm just born great! -sarcasm'd- Anyways, We should advertise, no? But still, it's sorta cozy just being a small community for now. We're the two first members! We'd be total vets if other pople came, yes yes. That'd be cool. -has never been a vet. ever. on a forum.-

The Were- part is a bit of fun -- no superstition involved. Werewolf has long been established, but why should the canines have all the fun? Why shouldn't felines also have fun? We are werecats -- we should be proud to be so! The curse of the werewolf is known as lycanthropy, derived from the Greek word lykanthropia; which consists of lykos, "wolf", and anthropos, "man (human)". Thus, lycanthropy is the combination of wolf and human. Under the umbrella of otherkin, the term lycanthropy is used to describe humans who in some way identify with wolves. This is all well and good for those people who do identify with wolves, but what about people who identify with other species? The choices are to come up with a new term for every possible species, or to come up with one term that encompasses all species. The latter was chosen. Thêragros is a Greek word for "animal" ((my research shows that this was possibly a very poor choice, but I am by no stretch of the imagination a linguist)). This was combined with anthropos to form the term we all use today -- therianthropy. Since it is a mouthful, we often shorten it to therian. Since therianthropy and lycanthropy are so closely related, the were- prefix is also related. We just paste in whatever species we want, and you've got a completely suitable term! Werewolf. Werecat. Werebird. Weredog. Werewhale? Woah, okay. I'm sorry. I seriously over-geeked there....... I tend to do that -- just as Teigra.

Yes he does tend to over geek a fair bit but thats what makes him him. I would love to advertise more. I have a link but on the Therian Top 100 but it doesn't seem to be doing much. If anyone can think of someplace else to advertise have at and go for it. As for the were torahanjyuu has it right its just a fun little name that I thought would catch people's - term used loosely of course - attention. That and the acronym is kick ass. ;D

Ah, I see. ^_^ Gotcha.
I dunno why we're totally lacking the attention the other forums get though. :S

Creativity and making people laugh is the key to all happines. =D
For the record:
1 Jaguar 1 Tiger 1 Puger 1 Cheetah 1 Caracal
We don't have any overlaps, that's awesome. =3 Unless you count half of Teigra. =P -grabs an egg slicer) XD Just kidding!
South America: 1 North America: 1 (0) Asia: 1 (2) Africa: 2 Oceania: 0 Europe: 0
the brackets are if I'm counting Teigra as a Puma(North America) or a Tiger(Asia). =3
I have too much time on my hands. XD
And yes. Cat's totally need an excuse to be all Were and big and bad. ;D

1. The WereCats are all hiding, I'm just getting used to sticking my anonymous pelt out into the wilds of the internet. 2. Because I'm not afraid to be me!
By the way, werewolves don't like to be called that because of werewolf syndrome (they don't want people to think they are clinically crazy). I think that is why the term therian became popular.
Word of mouth advertizing sometimes works. I will try telling my yahoo friends.

Clinical Lycanthropy yes? They're all hiding because they're otherwise busy? Stalking something else perhaps? Why am i awesome? I meerly exist and i've accepted it? I'd spread the word, that is if i had many therian friends. I've only recently just developed the nerve to talk more online ^^;

I'm an English major and creative writing is my main focus, may go for an MFA in Creative Writing ^///^ On a side note, if any of my posts seem odd in the typing, it's because I currently seem to be having a small war with my keyboard. >.< Oh and if anybody ever wants to chat, give me an IM, I'd love to hear from others any time
